The official snowfall count for
the 2013-2014 winter is 229.75"
as of 4-15-14 as measured at
the Road Commission office.

We have set a new annual
snowfall record for the county,
the most in the past 70 years (since
records have been kept), and
breakng the past record of 213.5"
set the winter of 1996-97.

high-quality road services for
Benzie County roads, thus
contributing, along with other
county road commissions, to the
continuity in road construction
and maintenance across the state.

  • Spring Weight Restriction Bulletin for 2014, #2: Effective Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 7:00 AM, Seasonal Weight and Speed Restrictions will be lifted on Benzie County Roads (as defined on our Roads page), with the exception of the following roads:

    • Crystal Drive (CR 704) from US-31 to M-22.
    • South Shore Drive (CR 702) from Lobb Road to M-22
    • Joyfield Road (CR 602) from Smeltzer Road to M-22.
    • Maple Street (CR 610) from the Village of Lake Ann to the Grand Traverse Line
    • Narrow Gauge Road
    • Brownell Road from CR 669 to Pioneer Road
    • Cedar Run Road from Lake Ann Road to the Grand Traverse Line
    • Valley Road from US 31 to Oakley Road
    • Sutter Road
    • Deadstream Road
    • Goose Road (CR 677) East of Pioneer Road to US 31

  • November 6, 2013 The Benzie County Road Commission would like to thank the community for its support in the recent millage request. We appreciate the opportunity to improve our road system! Please see our millage request brochure to see the proposed road improvements. (It also provides many useful facts you may not know about how the Road Commission is funded and what the Road Commission does.)

  • October 19, 2013 We encourage you to participate in the 5th annual Shake Your Mailbox Day. Each winter mailboxes are damaged during winter maintenance operations. More often than not, damage is caused by snow pushing against weakened posts or hardware. If you can shake your mailbox, it probably needs maintenance. See this Shake Your Mailbox brochure for more information, and how you should plow around your mailbox.

  • Mechanic wanted the Benzie County Road Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Mechanic. This is a full-time position. Required is a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, valid Class A CDL, certified w/ State of MI in Engine Repair/Diesel/Gas, Brakes/Hydraulic/Air, Suspension/Steering Systems, Electrical/Drive Train. Previous work experience with similar equipment is desired. Starting wage is $17.59/hr. 40 hours per week. Applications are available here: Employment Application for CDL Drivers and Mechanics.   • Elmer's Crane and Dozer was awarded the bid for 1.02 miles of Cedar Run Road, from Reynolds Road to Lake Ann Road for $205,153.96. Millage funds are being used for this project.
